Although international routes were dominated by the Asia-Pacific markets, the most traveled air routes worldwide were all domestic in South Korea, led once again by the Seoul Gimpo-Jeju section.
Airlines offered almost 14.7 million seats on the 450 km route in 2025, a year-on-year increase of 3.3%, but still well below the 17.4 million seats recorded in 2019, according to Aviation Week.
Seven airlines operate the Seoul Gimpo-Jeju market, offering a total of about 97 round-trip flights a day. Korean Air and Asiana Airlines together controlled 51% of the total capacity.
Jeju Island, one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature, is a favorite destination for Koreans and international tourists alike. Located south of the Korean Peninsula, it boasts a subtropical to temperate climate and offers breathtaking natural and exotic scenery.
Regarding flights, Chitose-Tokyo Haneda ranked second globally with 12.1 million seats, followed by Fukuoka-Tokyo Haneda with 11.5 million.
The Hanoi-Ho Chi Minh City route in Vietnam ranked fourth in the world with 11.2 million seats, it should be remembered that from Hanoi you reach Ha Long Bay – another of the New 7 Wonders of Nature in the world.
While Saudi Arabia’s Yeddah-Riad route rose to fifth place with 9.9 million seats.
The Chinese domestic service between Shanghai Hongqiao and Shenzhen Bao’an was the only new addition to the top 10, barely surpassing Guangzhou Baiyun-Shanghai Hongqiao.
Excluding routes from São Paulo Guarulhos and São Paulo Congonhas to Porto Alegre-Salgado Filho International Airport, which was closed for much of 2024 due to floods, the largest year-on-year increase in absolute capacity was recorded on the Yedda-Ryad route, which added about 1.15 million seats between 2024 and 2025.
