Once again, Peru shines again in international awards: Machupicchu – one of the New 7 Wonders of the World – has been recognized with the Gold Award Badge in the 2026 edition of the prestigious Best Vacations ranking of U.S. News & World Report, one of the most influential travel listings in the United States.
In this new edition, the citadel stands out in two main categories: number 1 in “Best places to visit in Central and South America” and number 8 in “Best places to visit in the world”. These distinctions consolidate it as one of the most fascinating destinations globally, reaffirming its historical, cultural and natural value.
It is important to note that in 2025, South America concentrated 50.7% of the total arrivals of international tourists to Peru and the most visited destination by foreigners was the historic sanctuary of Machupicchu.
Likewise, this year, it obtained its third certification as a Carbon Neutral destination, recognition granted by the Green Initiative organization, which consolidates the historic sanctuary as an international model of regenerative tourism and sustainable climate action.
