Within the framework of the 46th edition of the International Tourism Fair (Fitur) 2026, in which Mexico participated as a Guest Country, the Secretariat of Tourism of Mexico (Sectur), the Mayan Train and Flix announced the start of the sale of tickets for the Mayan Train through the renowned Flix website and the company’s mobile application, thus strengthening its international projection.

It should be noted that the Mayan train is a project that runs through 5 states of the Yucatan peninsula, there are more than 1500 kilometers of railways, and the busiest route is the one that connects the cities of Mérida with Cancun, and has the Chichen Itzá – one of the New 7 Wonders of the World and the most visited archaeological site in the country – almost halfway. This makes it easier for tourists who are in Quintana Roo to arrive at Chichen Itzá and then continue towards the city of Mérida or in the opposite direction.

The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, stressed that travelers will be able to purchase tickets for the Mayan Train through the website, the mobile application and the physical points of sale of Flix, with trips available from February 1, 2026, which will expand its international visibility and facilitate the planning of routes to the Mexican southeast; in addition, she stressed that this alliance strengthens the country’s tourism competitiveness by integrating digital tools that simplify the travel experience and bring the destinations of the Mayan World closer to a greater number of international visitors.

“The incorporation of the Mayan Train to Flix confirms that this project continues to be consolidated in the European market, arousing the interest of travelers looking for cultural, sustainable and connected experiences. It is a sample of how Mexico innovates in its tourism promotion to bring the Mayan World closer to the world,” he said.

For his part, the general director of the Mayan Train, Óscar David Lozano Águila, defined this commercial integration as a key step for more international travelers to perceive the Mexican southeast as a nearby and accessible destination. He stressed that, by placing the train offer in a global window through Flix, the project adapts to the dynamics of international tourism, eliminating logistical barriers so that travelers from Europe and the world can plan their journey with autonomy, confidence and security.

He also emphasized that this synergy, promoted jointly with the Ministry of Tourism, has a greater purpose: to use technology to redistribute the tourist flow to local communities and promote community tourism, since facilitating the arrival of visitors to each station strengthens the role of the project as an engine of economic development, consolidating the Mayan Train as an effective tool of social justice through international tourism.

Currently, the Maya Train operates 20 daily commercial rail services to strategic destinations in southeastern Mexico. During the winter vacation period it transported 147,416 passengers, with an all-time record of 9,844 people in a single day, and as of January 27, it adds a total of 2,150,000 passengers since the beginning of operations, which confirms its growing acceptance and consolidation as a tourist and regional mobility option.

This agreement is complemented by the offer of the Mundo Maya Group, which integrates seven hotels, four parks and two museums, consolidating a tourist ecosystem that articulates transport, accommodation and cultural and natural experiences for the benefit of regional development.

For its part, the renowned company Flix was founded in Germany, and has a presence in 44 countries and a global network of more than 6,800 destinations. Flix connects the center, north, Gulf and Bajío of Mexico through five routes that link 12 national destinations.
