The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) celebrated the signing of the Memorandums of Understanding between Peru and the countries of Chile and Panama, which will mark a new milestone in strengthening air connectivity, boost tourism and promote bilateral trade.

This responds to the existing demand of tourists from different places, who seek to come to Peru with the aim of knowing its interesting proposal, starting among other things with Machu Picchu – one of the New 7 Wonders of the World, and without letting the Amazon pass – one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature in the world.

Both agreements establish an important point in the process of liberalization of the skies of Peru, a fundamental measure to guarantee the growth and competitiveness of the tourism sector through the expansion of the international connectivity network, greater competition between airlines and more accessible prices for international visitors.

“This is great news for the country. From Mincetur we welcome these agreements, which directly benefit the entire tourism chain and foreign trade, generating foreign currency, boosting job generation and creating greater opportunities for Peru,” said the Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Teresa Mera.

New routes and airlines

The document signed by the General Directorate of Civil Aeronautics of the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) and the Civil Aeronautics Board (JAC) of Chile establishes the framework for a sustained growth of air connectivity with our main tourism issuing market, encouraging the entry of new airlines to operate on the Lima-Santiago route, the country’s main international connection with approximately 2 million passengers per year.

Likewise, the agreement will promote the opening of routes that connect Peru’s regional airports directly with Santiago and other cities in Chile.

Unlimited frequencies

For its part, the agreement signed by the DGAC of the MTC with the Aeronautical Authority (AAC) of Panama will generate important benefits for Peru. One of the main advances of the agreement is the establishment of unlimited frequencies for flights between Lima and Panama, which will increase travel options, facilitate the flow of passengers and strengthen the entry of international tourists. Added to this is the expansion of the connectivity network for travelers from Latin America, the United States and Canada.

Likewise, the memorandum creates favorable conditions for the growth of the Panama-Chiclayo route, as well as other direct links from regional airports in Peru to Panama City.

Mincetur reaffirms its commitment to continue articulating with the competent sectors, policies and actions that strengthen the country’s air connectivity and promote the arrival of more international visitors to contribute to the sustainable growth of tourism and foreign trade.
