The Secretary of Tourism of Mexico – Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, reported that from January to December 2025, 98.2 million international visitors entered the country, which represents an increase of 13.6 percent compared to 2024.

“The 2025 closing number confirms that Mexico is experiencing a solid and sustained moment in tourism matters. Never in the history of our country had so many visitors arrived in Mexico in a single year. This result is a reflection of a strong, resilient sector with a clear vision of the future,” he said.

In addition to its warm beaches, the archaeological site most visited by tourists in Mexico was again the Chichén Itza, one of the New 7 Wonders of the World.

According to the International Travelers Surveys of the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), during 2025 the foreign exchange income by international visitors reached 34,992 million dollars, which represented an increase of 6.2 percent compared to the previous year. He also highlighted that, during 2025, 47.8 million tourists entered the country, which represented an increase of 6.1 percent compared to 2024.

He explained that the concept of visitors includes both tourists, who spend at least one night at the destination, and hikers, who make overnight visits, such as border visitors and cruise hikers.

Rodríguez Zamora stressed that the results achieved in 2025 place Mexico in a strategic position for 2026, a key year for national tourism due to the realization of international events of great relevance.

“We are reaching 2026 with a strengthened, competitive tourism sector with solid foundations to continue growing. Tourism will continue to be a tool for social, economic and territorial transformation for the country,” he said.

He reiterated that Sectur will continue to promote actions to strengthen connectivity, diversify tourism offer and promote balanced development, which benefits companies, communities and workers in the sector throughout the country.
