Within the framework of this celebration, the Table Mountain – one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature in the world – once again stands out as one of the most iconic tourist and ecological attractions of Cape Town and the entire African continent.
The Table Mountain Aerial Cableway began operating on October 4, 1929, the first visitors took a trip on the cable car to the top of Table Mountain. Before that, the only way to get to the top was on foot. Since then, the Aerial Cableway has been updated three times.
The view from the top was impressive from the beginning, it is what tourists praised the most over almost a century of work. For its part, Cape Town has changed considerably, improving services and the daily landscape for both travelers and local citizens.
You can see Table Mountain from almost everywhere in Cape Town, but from the top of the Mountain, you can see everything: the Atlantic Ocean, the city, Signal Hill, Lion’s Head, the coast, and even Robben Island. All those familiar places suddenly look quite different from above.
Currently the Table Mountain receives about 2 million tourists every year. And in this 2026, an encouraging fact is that South Africa and the Cape Town region record a strong increase in the arrival of travelers, with a year-on-year growth of more than 12% in international arrivals during the first half of the year.
