Vietnam has announced the renewal of its unilateral visa exemption policy for citizens of 12 countries until 2028. This measure aims to enhance the attractiveness of the country as a tourist destination and promote international trade.
Vietnam captivates the international public with impressive destinations of nature and culture, and one of the most visited points by tourists is Ha Long Bay, one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature in the world.
In a strategic decision aimed at enhancing its tourist appeal and diplomatic relations, the Vietnamese government has announced the extension of the visa exemption for citizens of 12 European and Asian countries.
This measure, initially launched in August 2023, became effective on March 15, 2025 and will extend until March 14, 2028, which will allow travelers from the countries in question to continue enjoying a 45-day visa-free stay in Vietnam.
The 12 countries exempt from visa to travel to Vietnam until 2028
The twelve countries covered by this exemption are France, Germany, Italy, Spain, United Kingdom, Russia, Japan, South Korea, Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland. This leaves out of Belarus, which was initially one of the countries that could benefit from this unilateral visa exemption.
With the granting of this extension, Vietnam reaffirms its commitment to facilitate the entry of international travelers, a measure especially beneficial for its tourism sector. Since the reopening of the borders after the pandemic, the country has opted for a more flexible entry policy to attract more visitors and boost its economy.
A strategy of openness and international cooperation
In addition to its tourist implications, this initiative reflects the desire to deepen diplomatic and economic relations with the beneficiary countries. By facilitating access to Vietnamese territory, the government encourages trade, investment and the strengthening of cultural ties with these associated nations.
Interested travelers, regardless of the type of passport or the reason for their stay, must nevertheless respect the entry conditions provided by Vietnamese law. This will allow them to make the most of their visit, whether for tourist, professional or family reasons.
At the same time, Vietnam continues to develop its electronic visa system (e-Visa), which allows travelers from all over the world to obtain an online visa for stays of up to 90 days, with one or more tickets, which further facilitates access to the country.
The extension of this visa exemption is part of a series of reforms designed to simplify administrative procedures and offer a more fluid and attractive travel experience.
By adopting a policy of openness, Vietnam hopes to position itself as one of the must-see destinations in Southeast Asia, taking advantage of its spectacular landscapes, its rich culture and its renowned hospitality.
