The Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Export and Tourism (PromPeru) participated for the first time in the International Travel Expo (ITE) Hong Kong fair, one of the most important tourist events in Asia, held from June 11 to 14.

Participation in ITE Hong Kong represents an important step in the tourism promotion strategy promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (MINCETUR), through PromPerú, to increase the visibility of the country in long-distance markets with high growth potential and high tourism spending.

During the fair, PromPerú highlighted the premium experiences offered by Peru, as well as its natural, historical and cultural richness. He also held meetings with key players in the Asian tourism industry, which made it possible to identify new opportunities for promotion and learn about the trends that have been marking the behavior of high-level travelers in the region.

The Peruvian presence at this important meeting contributes to strengthening the country’s positioning among Chinese travelers residing in Hong Kong, a segment characterized by their interest in exclusive experiences, personalized travel, well-being, nature and cultural tourism.

Strategic market for Peru

The Chinese traveler residing in Hong Kong is considered one of the most active and with the greatest spending capacity in Asia. It is a profile that makes multiple trips a year and allocates an important part of its income to international travel, gastronomy and premium experiences.

In addition, he is a highly digitized tourist, who plans his trips in advance and looks for authentic destinations that allow him to connect with local culture, nature and differentiated proposals.

The results of receptive tourism reflect the growing interest of the Chinese market in Peru. In 2025, our country received 54,470 visitors from China, a figure that represented an increase of 11% compared to the previous year. This positive trend continues during 2026, with 22,663 Chinese tourists registered until April, which represents an increase of 21% compared to the same period of the previous year.

With actions like this, PromPerú, an entity attached to Mincetur, continues to strengthen the country’s tourism promotion in strategic markets, promoting the arrival of international visitors and contributing to the economic development of Peru’s tourist destinations.
