PromPeru provided specialized information about the destination to the event organizers and conducted a press trip to the Cusco region, home to Machu Picchu—one of the New 7 Wonders of the World—to contribute to Peru’s tourism promotion in France.
As part of its international tourism promotion efforts, PromPeru supported the production of BikingMan IncaDivide Peru 2026, an initiative that helps strengthen Peru’s international positioning as an adventure and nature destination. The tenth edition of this demanding competition brought together more than 80 international ultracyclists in the Peruvian Andes.
Among the actions undertaken was the provision of specialized information on the main tourist attractions and resources of interest for the planning and execution of the competition. Also, as part of the event, a press trip was organized with the participation of major French media outlets such as France 24 and Radio France Internationale (RFI), with the aim of showcasing the adventure and nature tourism offerings of the Sacred Valley. This support contributes to the effective promotion of Peruvian destinations and ensures representation aligned with the country’s tourism promotion strategy.
The BikingMan IncaDivide race started in Urubamba, in the Sacred Valley of Cusco, and presented a challenge of 1,200 kilometers and 23,000 meters of elevation gain. Participants crossed several mountain passes located above 4,400 meters in altitude, reaching a maximum point of 5,100 meters, traversing some of the most spectacular landscapes of the Andes Mountains.
To celebrate its 10th anniversary, the competition featured a distinguished group of international athletes, including Peruvian Rodney Soncco, multiple winner of the BikingMan, and French athletes Laurianne Plaçais, Pierre Rolland, Grégory Cassini, and Edwige Pitel, renowned for their achievements in ultracycling and endurance events.
The 2026 edition concluded with a double French victory: Pierre Rolland was crowned champion after completing the course in 83 hours, and in the women’s category, Laurianne Levasseur took first place. Rolland engaged in a fierce battle with Peruvian Rodney Soncco, who finished in second place with a time of 85 hours and 55 minutes.
The competition combined the sporting challenge with an experience of nature and culture, allowing participants to immerse themselves in the Andean landscapes, local communities, and traditions that form part of our country’s identity. “Ten years after the creation of BikingMan, the IncaDivide remains one of our most emblematic events. Returning to Peru with these champions to celebrate this decade is a very special moment. This race is not just a sporting event; it is a true human and cultural odyssey in the land of the Incas,” highlighted Axel Carion, founder of BikingMan.
Adventure tourism represents an opportunity to diversify Peru’s tourism offerings. According to a study conducted by Turismo In in 2025, 52% of foreign tourists participate in adventure activities during their stay in the country and register an average expenditure of USD 1,887, 26% higher than that of the average tourist.
Events like the IncaDivide showcase the possibility of combining nature, physical activity, culture, and interaction with local communities.
With more than 50 events organized and over 5,000 participants since its inception, BikingMan is an international benchmark in ultracycling. On its tenth anniversary, IncaDivide reaffirms the potential of the Peruvian Andes to host international sporting events and generate visibility for its destinations, PromPeru , an agency attached to the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (MINCETUR), continues to promote initiatives that contribute to positioning Peru as a destination for adventure, nature, and wide-open spaces, and to attract new travelers interested in authentic, high-value experiences.
