The formal event will be on June, 7th. The Cuban Capital will be awarded by the Switzerland Foundation, New Seven Wonders. After a global 4 year votation where a million of habitants agreed that La Habana should be one of the Wonders of the World.
The 7 cities more voted were de La Habana, Beirut (Líbano), Vigan (Filipinas), Durban (Sudáfrica), Doha (Qatar), Kuala Lumpur (Malasia) y La Paz (Bolivia).
Bernard Weber, the president of Visit7Wonders Foundation, explained that La Habana was choosen because of the global culture that represents as an urban society. 1.200 cities of 220 countries participated in this challenge, but a global votation of citizens of different parts of the world choose 7 of them, which are already the winners.
The official event of this mention will be in La Habana, and managers of the New7Wonders and Visit7Wonders will be present. The New7Wonders Foundation will gives a recognition monument to La Habana city by La Explanada Del Castillo de San Salvador de La Punta. There will also be a celebration in the Cathedral square were Buena Vista Social Club, the Ballet Lizt Alfonso and the National Chorus of Cuba will be present.
On June, 9th the celebration will continue with participation of the public at the Carnaval Parade in Paseo Del Prado.
There also will be an specific speech with the presence of New7Wonders and Visit7Wonders members.
The events will be ending by June, 11th with a Popular Cuban Music Concert in La Aragón, Prado and Neptuno.
