The governor of Rio de Janeiro, Wilson Witzel, has launched a major international campaign to promote tourism in the Brazilian state. The initiative main element is opening several tourist offices in key points in both the United States and Europe, amongst which is the Spanish city of Madrid
Witzel has set its sights on the tourism sector, since he considers that the 6.5 million tourists that Brazil receives per year are few in relation to the country’s potential. The same opinion when referring to the 2.3 million go to Rio de Janeiro, a state that could accommodate many more tourists.
Witzel has stated that this institutional initiative is inspired by the one carried out with great success in Portugal, whose tourism has deployed in the last 21 tourism promotion delegations to different countries around the world.
