Last Sunday night, Brazil’s New 7 Wonder of the World was lit up for paying tribute to health workers across the world fighting the coronavirus crisis. Images of doctors and nurses asking people to stay at home and flags from different countries with the word ‘Hope’ were also projected in the Christ the Redeemer during the event.
Rio’s archbishop, Dom Orani Tempesta, performed a mass without public at the base of the statue during the tribute to medical workers, only the press was present.
This is the second time the New 7 Wonder of the World lits up in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the first time flags of several countries were displayed on the statue, along with the hashtag “Praying together” in multiple languages.
