Parts of the Badaling section of the wall, about 50 miles northwest of Beijing, were reopened last wednesday as life in China slowly regains normalcy, after almost three months being close. The Great Wall will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.
Since it’s one of the most popular attractions in the country, in May 2019 a visitor cap was announced, which restricted it to only 65,000 visitors per day. Nowadays, in order to keep the visitor numbers around 30% of peak traffic for safety reasons, tourists will have to book appointments and buy tickets before their arrival. Along with ID cards, visitors will have to present a “health code” ensuring they’re healthy.
Other tourist spots are also reopening, including Shanghai’s Power Station Of Art museum and Beijing’s city zoo, which closed in late January. News like these are encouraging and give hope to the rest of the tourist sector.
