On May 19 China celebrates the Tourism Day, a national holiday that encourages people to travel in order to boost the domestic tourism sector. However, this year celebrations were arranged in a different way.
Many provinces and regions throughout China, introduced discounts and promotions as a way to celebrate the 10th China Tourism Day. Just a few days ago, China welcomed its holiday tourism peak of the year over the Labor Day holiday period, which ran from May 1 to 5, where the number of domestic tourists reached almost 115 million.
According to China’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism, about 70 percent of China’s tourist attractions reopened, but all sites have had to cap visitors to 30 percent of designed capacity. The Great Wall of China, one of the New 7 Wonders of the World, is still the country’s most popular tourist attraction as shown by the Tourism Day numbers.
