Machu Picchu, one of the New 7 Wonders of the World, is now accessible to people in wheelchairs, thanks to the company Wheel The World, which seeks to consolidate itself as a global venture for inclusive tourism. One of its creators is Álvaro Silberstein, a young Chilean who suffered a traffic accident back in 2003 that left him prostrate in a wheelchair.
Wheel The World makes the experience possible by using a trekking chair called Joëllette, invented by the French company of the same name.
The purpose of Wheel the World is “to encourage tourist activities for people with disabilities, their families and their friends. Create awareness about people with disabilities as active individuals who seek to live a full life, and inspire with stories of improvement, companionship and love”.
