Malaysia’s Prime Minister, Muhyiddin Yassin, announced the extension of the recovery movement control order (MCO) to December 31, 2020 as the country is experiencing a new cases outbreak.
This extension will allow the government to handle new outbreaks under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 while Malaysians will continue to adhere to health protocols set by the government.
Malaysia’s borders will remain shut, with the exceptional cases flying into Malaysia mandated to undergo a 14-day mandatory quarantine to prevent the imported cases. The Prime Minister stated that “tourists are still not allowed to enter the country to avoid import cases”.
The country that hosts one of the New 7 Wonder Cities, Kuala Lumpur, has one of the smallest numbers of infections in the continent, a sign that this kind of preventive measures have paid off.
