The Mérida International Airport will double its current capacity to receive up to 4.5 million passengers a year to the state of Yucatán, home to Chichén Itzá, one of the New 7 Wonders of the World.
According to local authorities, the first stage of the remodeling works will be completed in February 2021.The second stage will consist of the modification of the boarding rooms and is expected to be completed by 2022.
The administrator of the air terminal, Óscar Carrillo Maldonado, stated to the press that “the airport has recovered in an important and sustained way”. After months of lockdown, the numbers have shown an occupancy of 75 percent in all airlines.
