Even though the national government recommended not to travel and to stay at home, there was a significant movement registered by domestic tourism during the new year’s festivities in the country that hosts the Great Wall, one of the New 7 Wonders of the World.
China celebrated the lunar new year on February 12 and even though numbers were not similar to 2019 -the last “normal year” in which nearly 999 million domestic trips were recorded-, short-distance travel was the most popular plan.
The government introduced several measures to deter citizens from traveling through the country such as cash incentives to spend locally, extensive testing and quarantine requirements.
