The Ministry of Transport and Communications of Peru announced the construction of an alternative road to Machu Picchu, one of the New 7 Wonders of the World. It will have an investment of more than 600 million soles and will be completed in December 2023.

According to the president of the Cusco Chamber of Commerce, Edy Cuellar, the new work “would increase tourism, because it would be more accessible due to its price and also because of the travel time, which could be done in four and a half hours.”

This project seeks to create an alternative access road to the train that has Machu Picchu as its final destination, as well as allowing a greater offer in ticket rates. However, some Peruvian tourist entities have pointed out the importance of controlling the flow of tourists as a way to protect the Wonder.
