The state that hosts Chichén Itzá, one of the New 7 Wonders of the World, announced an upgrade on its air connectivity with the United States in order to boost the tourism sector as well as the local economy.
The deal was made in the framework of the Yucatan Economic Reactivation Plan launched by the state government, a programme that helped recover international air connectivity up to 75%, while national connectivity exceeds 61% of the levels prior to the pandemic.
The new route operated by United Airlines will connect Mérida with Houston with a daily flight starting in May, and it is expected to double its frequency in September.
