Indonesia’s government announced a new redirection of fundings to fight the country’s new outbreak that affects the tourism sector directly, but the power of the home of Komodo Island, one of the New 7 Wonder Nature, is already starting to show.
In the latest press release, Indonesia’s Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (MoTCE) announced that it will be putting destination marketing campaigns on hold after its annual budget was slashed by almost 40%. However, authorities also explained that other initiatives will continue and even though the budget cut affects it, the country’s promotion around the world won’t ease.
One of the government’s announcements was the end of 19 Visit Indonesia Tourism Officers (VITOs) serviced, the country’s overseas tourism marketing representatives, but they volunteered to continue working without remuneration from October to December and proposed that their service fees be reinstated in January 2022 with the country’s new budget.
The Ministry also announced the continuation of the “Cleanliness, Health, Safety and Environmental Sustainability certification programme, marketing tourism villages and the tourism stimulus programme for vaccinated travellers, as well as training talents in the tourism and creative economy sector”.
