The National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) revealed that the most visited Prehispanic City in the country is Chichén Itzá, one of the New 7 Wonders of the World.
According to official numbers registered by the INAH, only in the third quarter of 2021 4,304,945 people visited the country’s museums and archaeological sites. Even though this is a figure 33% lower than the same period in 2020, there is a tendency for growth.
The report also showed that from the total number of visitors, 63% were national tourists while 36% were foreign, a difference that is expected to be shorter since the reopening of borders and enlightenment of measures.
The Prehispanic city of Chichén Itzá is the most visited archaeological heritage area with 1,136,059 visitors, followed by Tulum and Teotihuacan.
