As a way to stimulate the economic recovery, the Philippines president inaugurated the Puerto Princesa Seaport expansion project in the city that also hosts the Puerto Princesa Underground River, one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature.
During the inaugural speech, President Rodrigo Duterte, stated that “we welcome this infrastructure development as we continue to overcome and recover from the impact of the pandemic on our economy. Also, this will help boost the main gateway port of the island and reinforce its role in expanding transportation connectivity and enhancing economic and tourism activities in the province as well as in other parts of the country”.
The expansion of the Puerto Princesa Port is framed in the government administration’s “Build, Build, Build” Program, that includes 472 commercial and social-tourism nationwide projects accomplished by the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) since 2016.
