The Indonesian government has decided to ban the entry of tourists to the island from 2020 as part of the plan to achieve the conservation of the Komodo dragon. The measure will take effect from January of next year and will last 12 months.

Tourists will be able to continue observing reptiles in the nearby islands of Rinca and Padar, which are part of the Komodo National Park, as told by official sources.

“We want to close it as a way to conserve it. We are going to redesign the island so that it becomes a world-class conservation zone,” said the head of the regional secretariat of the East Nusa Tenggara province, Marius Ardu Jelamu.
