482 years ago, on February 12, 1542, a Spanish expedition led by Francisco de Orellana, reached the mouth of the Napo River in the Amazon. The act for the 482 ° Anniversary of the Discovery of the Amazon River, was held in the Municipal Auditorium of Maynas.

The event was attended by various authorities and institutions, developing a significant program that incorporated acts alluding to the culture and history of the Amazon, as well as artistic numbers.

Requena was the first governor of the General Command of Maynas created by the Hispanic Crown in 1778. Military strategist, geographer, outstanding painter. It had a relevant role for the extensive territories of the Amazon to be added to the Viceroyalty of Peru, being the inheritance of the current republic.
