Jordan’s tourism sector has been flourishing, with a record number of tourists last year, amounting to almost 6.4 million. This increase in foreign tourists arriving in Jordan reflects their growing interest in places of cultural, historical and natural interest, such as Petra – one of the New 7 Wonders of the World, and other places such as the Dead Sea and the Wadi Rum desert. The country’s tourism sector contributes significantly to the national economy, representing 15.6% of GDP.
Jordan’s tourism is resilient to the crisis. According to a report by Tourism Review News, the geopolitical and regional context negatively affected the country’s perception of security, which caused a temporary decrease in tourist arrivals. However, the Jordanian authorities quickly collaborated with the field offices to address these challenges.
They communicated effectively with the partners and implemented measures to ensure the safety of visitors. In addition, the Kingdom has been actively promoting its various tourist experiences, offering incentives on charter flights, entering into continuous dialogues with professionals in the sector and providing training.
In this context, the outlook is optimistic, since in these months of 2024, efforts to reactivate tourism in Jordan are giving positive results. There has been a notable increase in searches for trips to the destination and a slight rebound in the completion rate.
It should be noted that the main sporting events such as the Marathon des Sables and the Full Moon Marathon have seen a constant participation of athletes and enthusiasts, especially from the French market.
The organizers of the Marathon des Sables reported that the number of foreign visitors has remained stable compared to the previous year, indicating a sustained interest in the event. In addition, the November marathon session was complemented by a second session in May, which contributed even more to the recovery of Jordan’s tourism industry.
Although the European market remains an important source of tourists, the increase in regional travelers has also played an important role in the recovery of Jordan’s tourism industry, with an increase of 7.2% in the number of regional travelers compared to the previous year.
