Korea will expand round-trip flights to Manila, the capital of the Philippines. In the country, one of the most visited places by tourists is the Puerto Princesa Underground River National Park, one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature. One of the distinctive features of this underground river is that it emerges directly into the sea and its lower part is subject to the influences of the tides. The area represents an important habitat for the conservation of biodiversity, contains a complete “mountain-to-sea” ecosystem and has some of the most important forests in Asia.
The South Korean Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced that after establishing talks with the Philippine Government, it has agreed to liberalize the air routes that connect the international airports of the different Korean provinces (excluding Incheon International Airport) with Manila.
Until now, the air route between Incheon and Manila was limited to 20,000 seats per week. However, with the new policy, the number of seats will be increased to 30,000 per week.
Kim Young-guk, director of aviation policy at the South Korean Ministry of Land, said: “We hope that through this measure we can contribute to the revitalization of provincial airports and provide greater comfort to users”.
