The Secretary of Tourism of Mexico, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, reported that in the period January-September 2024, 32.6 million international tourists entered the country, 6.3 percent more compared to the same period in 2023.

Based on the results of the International Travelers Survey, published by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), the head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) pointed out that in the first 9 months of the year, the income of foreign exchange for international visitors was 24,267 million dollars, which represents an increase of 6.5 percent compared to the period January-September 2023.

In turn, he added that the income of foreign exchange for international tourists from January to September 2024 also showed an increase, registering 22,320 million dollars, 5.1 percent more than in 2023.

As for the most visited places, among the favorites was Chichen Itzá, one of the main archaeological sites of the Mayan culture, which since 2007 is part of the New 7 Wonders of the World.

In addition, Rodríguez Zamora pointed out that according to information from the Migration Policy Unit-Registration and Identity of Persons of the Ministry of the Interior (Segob), until the third quarter of 2024 the entry of 16 million 477 thousand international tourists by nationality by air has been recorded, 2.4 percent more than what was recorded in 2023 and 16 percent more than in 2019.

In this sense, he highlighted that the main nationalities by market share are: Americans with 64.1%; Canadians, 11.2%; Colombians: 2.8%; English, 2.1; and Spaniards, 1.7%.

The Secretary of Tourism highlighted that currency increases contribute to the development and generation of jobs, she added that the change in the way of doing tourism, through sustainability, positions tourist activity as a tool to encourage shared prosperity, produces benefits for all members of the productive chain, and with the inclusion of residents of the communities, provides social welfare.
