Princess Kako, second daughter of the Akishino family, made her first visit to the Peru Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka-Kansai, an event organized by the Peruvian Commission for the Promotion of Export and Tourism (PromPeru). The Japanese authority showed a deep interest in tourism, cultural heritage, gastronomy and the historical links between Peru and Japan.
During her tour, the princess attended a culinary demonstration in which octopus with olive oil was prepared, a representative dish of Nikkei cuisine. This proposal fuses Japanese sashimi techniques with olives from southern Peru, reflecting the richness of the cultural and gastronomic exchange between both nations.
He also enjoyed immersive projections on the giant screen of iconic sites such as Caral, 5,000 years old, and Machu Picchu – one of the New 7 Wonders of the World, in addition to witnessing a Peruvian folk dance.
The visit included a space dedicated to emblematic products of the country, such as alpaca and vicuña fiber, as well as Andean superfoods. Later, in the exhibition on Nasca culture, he received information about the research carried out by Japanese specialists in the Nasca Lines and carefully observed original pieces of this civilization, provided by the Art Museum of Lima (MALI).
In the memorial area of the bilateral relationship, the princess took an official photograph and tasted a selection of Peruvian dishes: octopus with olive oil, Lima cause, quinoa salad, salted loin, purple mazamorra and cañihua mazamorra. His satisfaction was evident in enjoying all the preparations offered.
Princess Kako of Japan’s visit to the Peru Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka-Kansai is especially relevant for its growing role in the Japanese Imperial Family and in international diplomacy.
His presence in the Peruvian pavilion not only symbolizes Japan’s interest in Peru’s cultural and gastronomic diversity, but also projects a message of trust and closeness in the bilateral relationship, strengthening mutual understanding and cooperation between Peru and Japan.

Peru’s participation, which began in April and will end in October, is led by PromPerú, an entity attached to the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (MINCETUR).
