As of December 2025, passengers on domestic flights in Vietnam will no longer need to submit physical documents if they use the level 2 VNeID digital identity along with biometric facial recognition.
If this new technology is implemented, passengers will be able to go directly from the security check to the boarding gate, eliminating traditional manual procedures.
In this way, passengers without checked baggage will be able to check in online or at the machines, and then they will go through security and boarding controls through facial recognition, without showing any document. While passengers who have checked baggage should only leave their luggage and continue.
This change involves a complete transformation of the ground process at airports, replacing manual control with a system based on electronic gates (e-gates), smart cameras with artificial intelligence (AI), and digital data, thus reducing between 10 and 15 minutes the average processing time per passenger.
For months, this system has been tested at several airports in Vietnam as a test. Most passengers value the speed and convenience of the new system. But there are those who feel confused by technology. For those cases, airports already have digital assistance staff who help solve problems quickly. The goal is to start at the airports in December of this year and then extend the system also to the train stations.
Vietnam has a high demand from tourists in its transport systems, due to its natural beauty and its many tourist attractions, among them stands out the Bay of Ha Long – one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature in the World.
