China recorded a total of 16.34 million cross-border trips during the eight days of holidays for the National Day and the Mid-Autumn Festival, which ended on the 8th, according to the National Immigration Administration.
The daily average of cross-border crossings exceeded two million, which represents a year-on-year increase of 11.5%, according to the same source.
During the holiday, cross-border travel by foreigners rose by 21.6%, reaching 1.43 million. A total of 751,000 foreign travelers entered the country, including 535,000 under the visa waiver policy, which represents year-on-year increases of 19.8 and 46.8%, respectively.
Among the most visited places was the Great Wall – one of the New 7 Wonders of the World.
Interregional travel
In addition, 2,430 million interregional passenger trips were recorded nationwide during the eight days of holidays on the occasion of National Day and the Mid-Autumn Festival, according to the Ministry of Transport.
From October 1 to 8, an average of 304 million interregional passenger trips were made daily, which represents a year-on-year increase of 6.3 percent and marks an all-time high.
The demand for tourist options such as small group excursions, self-driving and trips for the whole family remained strong, showing the boom of travel during the holidays.
