Machu Picchu has been chosen as the place to start the famous tradition of the Olympic flame, which will travel through all the different parts of Peru to reach the National Stadium in Lima to start the sporting event.

The relay will cover 5,500 kilometers and will last 23 days passing through the different cities of the country. A total of 216 athletes will run to the National Stadium in Lima where the inauguration the event will take place on July 26. The regional municipality of Cusco and the police are responsible for coordinating the relay to ensure the safety of all participants.

The international event will begin on Friday, July 26 and will last until Sunday, August 11. Athletes from the 41 countries of America will participate in a total of 39 sports.
