With the help of local communities, French scientist Michel André, a specialist in bioacoustics, installed ultrasensitive receptors in an environmental reserve of the Brazilian Amazon to monitor the preservation of biodiversity in real time.
‘I want to make the rest of the world understand the urgency of protecting the Amazon rainforest and supporting conservation actions’, said the scientist.
These ‘smart ears’ send the data in real time to the laboratory, where they analyze them with the help of the local communities and the biologists of the Institute. Since the beginning of the project, ten stations have been deployed in the reserve and more than 40 species that are being monitored have been identified.
