From the 17th of June 2019, tourists with a US passport will be exempt from the visa upon entering Brazil. The decree applies to people traveling for tourism, business or transit purposes, as well as for artistic and sports activities, as reported by the US Department of State on their Twitter account.

This is possible thanks to a decree made by the government of Jair Bolsonaro, which exempts the visa requirement for citizens with an American passport for stays of up to 90 days, extendable for an equal period.

The Minister of Tourism, Marcelo Alvaro Antonio, described the measure as «one of the most important achievements for the Brazilian tourism industry in the last 15 years and we are confident that it will be extremely beneficial for the country».
