These volcanic islands are inhabited by a population of approximately 5,700 giant lizards, whose aggressive appearance and behavior have given them the name of Komodo Dragons. They do not exist anywhere else in the world and are of great interest to scientists studying the theory of evolution. The steep slopes of the arid savanna and the hotspots of thorny green vegetation contrast starkly with the white sand of the beaches and the blue waters that bathe the corals.
