According to the Decentralized Culture Directorate of Cusco, the resumption of tours through Inca Trail Route 5 will be from July 1, at the same time of the reopening of Machu Picchu, one of the New 7 Wonders of the World.
The famous Route 5 of the Inca Trail circuit will start in Chachabamba, and through the circuit visitors can find the Chachabamba archaeological site, the Sacred Trail, the Wiñayawayna and Intipunku pre-Hispanic monuments, as well as the Historic Sanctuary and Archaeological Park of Machu Picchu.
The visitors must respect the protocols and sanitary guidelines provided by the Ministry of Health in order to avoid the virus spread, and a maximum of 120 visitors will be allowed per day during the first stage of reopening the Inca Trail. As for Machu Picchu, it will receive a total of 675 visitors per day, according to Cusco Region Governor Jean Paul Benavente.
Local residents of Machu Picchu have been protesting in recent days to ensure that all health protocols are supported by the correct economic and administrative resources.
