According to China’s government, more than 637 million people traveled internally over the past week in celebration of the annual “Golden Week”. One of the most visited destinations was the Great Wall of China, one of the New 7 Wonders of the World.
Official numbers showed that domestic travelers generated around $68.6 billion in tourism revenue during the eight-day holiday. As a way to attract tourists, local authorities issued travel vouchers and offered discounted tickets on the previous days.
Before the Golden Week began, the Badaling Special Administrative Region Office -the agency that manages that Great Wall section- warned visitors to continue following restrictions during the holiday season, such as social distancing and wearing masks.
