The New 7 Wonder of the World of Machu Picchu elevates its expectations for the new year and estimates that the Inca Citadel will receive over 1 million visitors during 2022.
The projection was made by Peru’s Ministry of Culture and estimates that in 2022 nearly 1.111 million tourists will visit the Wonder of the World. According to Cusco’s Decentralized Culture Directorate (DDC), Machu Picchu received 447,800 visitors in 2021 due to the months closed because of the restrictions.
The head of the Machu Picchu Archaeological Park, José Bastante, stated that “we continue to work hard on the care, maintenance, and conservation of Machu Picchu, despite the restrictions imposed due to the pandemic, and a pleasant visit for tourists is ensured”.
