This agreement signed between Peru and South Korea strengthens ties and opens the possibility of future direct air connections, enhancing tourism and economic opportunities between the two countries.

Both countries are owners of Wonders of the World, in Peru, the most visited place by international tourists is Machu Picchu, one of the New 7 Wonders of the World. And in South Korea, Jeju Island stands out, one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature in the world.

The Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Export and Tourism (PromPerú) highlighted the tourist potential of the “Agreement between Peru and South Korea on Air Services between their Territories and beyond,” signed by the governments of both countries. This document opens the door to future direct air connections between the two countries, consolidating bilateral ties and creating new opportunities to strengthen the flow of South Korean tourists to Peru and vice versa.

From PromPerú they pointed out that the interest of the Korean market in Peru has grown exponentially in recent years. In 2023, 12,200 South Korean tourists arrived in the country, while in 2024 this figure was already largely exceeded: until October, with 14,020 tourists from South Korea, which represents an increase of 64% compared to the same period of the previous year.

The agreement stipulates that airlines designated by the governments of Peru and Korea will be able to operate regular international flights from any city in Peruvian territory to any destination in South Korea, and vice versa. PromPerú stressed that a possible direct route between Lima and Seoul would considerably shorten travel times, making it easier for more Korean tourists to enjoy the varied tourist attractions of Peru.

“From the majesty of our Andes to the biodiversity of the Amazon and the cultural richness of our communities, Peru has been positioning itself as a unique destination in the Asia region. In addition, this new link will boost growing segments such as luxury, sustainable and experiential tourism, which are gaining popularity in these markets,” PromPerú said.

With this agreement as a framework, PromPerú reaffirms its commitment to continue implementing specific strategies for the Asian market, combining innovative and diversified approaches, from digital actions to initiatives aimed at the commercial sector. With this, it seeks to strengthen Peru’s presence in South Korea and promote the country’s wide and varied tourist offer.
