Mexico participated in the ITB Berlin, with an agenda focused on promotion, air connectivity, investment and international cooperation, as part of its strategy to consolidate its presence in the European market.
“Europe is a strategic partner for Mexico, not only for its volume of travelers, but for the profile of cultural, sustainable and high-value tourism it represents. In this edition of the ITB Berlin, we come to consolidate long-term relationships and demonstrate that Mexico is prepared to respond to an increasingly demanding market, with quality, professionalization and a diversified offer,” said Undersecretary Desplas.
At his time, the ambassador of Mexico to Germany, Francisco Quiroga, agreed that the presence of the protagonists of world tourism at the ITB Berlin confirms the potential of the sector. The challenge now is to ensure effective access to the international market.
Chichen Itza
In the same period of the Fair, it was known that the archaeological zones of Mexico received 975,711 visitors during January 2026, of which 58% were nationals and 42% foreigners.
The archaeological areas with the highest number of visitors were Chichén Itzá- one of the New 7 Wonders of the World, Teotihuacán with Site Museum and Tulum, which together concentrated 492,939 visitors, equivalent to 51 percent of the national total.
On the other hand, the inauguration of the Mexico Pavilion at the fair, was attended by diplomatic and tourist authorities, as well as the state of Chihuahua and the destination Los Cabos, who presented their natural wealth, cultural heritage, gastronomy, community experiences and specialized segments.
In a coordinated manner, the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) attended high-level meetings, in which opportunities for international cooperation, sustainability and institutional strengthening of the sector were addressed.
In terms of connectivity, a working session will be developed with the Aeromexico regional team. Currently, more than 60 monthly flights are operated from Munich and Frankfurt to Mexico City, Cancun and Los Cabos, strengthening the tourist exchange between both countries. Cancun’s connectivity, which connects to the 16 venues of the 2026 World Cup, stands out in particular.
With this participation, the Government of Mexico endorses its commitment to the sustained growth of tourism as an engine of shared prosperity, through a strategy of public and tourism diplomacy that positions the country as a competitive, sustainable destination and open to the world.
