Six national tourist routes have been selected for their scenic beauty and the wealth of nearby tourist resources.

The South Korean Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced the designation of the following routes:

1- Sumbi Coastal Road (24.7 km) in Gujwa-eup Township, Jeju Island – one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature in the world.

2- Jirisan Scenic Trail (59.5 km), which skirts Mount Jirisan in Hamyang-gun County, Gyeongsangnam-do Province.

3- Gucheon-dong Nature Trail (12 km) in Muju-gun County, Jeollabuk-do Province. 4 – Cheongpunggyeong-gil Trail (12.9 km) in Jecheon City, Chungcheongbuk-do Province.

5 – Baengnisseomseom-gil Trail (23 km) in Jeollanam-do Province.

6 – Byeolgureum-gil Trail, also known as the Star Cloud Trail (100 km), in Gangwon-do Province.

These six routes were selected from 35 candidates following an evaluation conducted between August and October of last year by a committee of private sector experts. The evaluation considered tourism, roads, transportation, history and culture, regional planning, and landscapes, in addition to a further review by the Highway Policy Committee.

This is the first designation since the launch of the tourist route system, and it is expected to significantly boost regional tourism and local economies.
