The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, announced the tourist and economic balance of the 2026 World Cup in the World Cup venues, whose results reflect the positive impact that this event had on the economic and tourist activity of the country.

In this context, he explained that from June 8 to July 19, there was the arrival of 7.8 million national and international travelers, including tourists and hikers; a total economic spill estimated at 65 billion Mexican pesos (3,720,858,700 dollars); a tourist spill of 42,276 million pesos (2,420,011,832.16 USD); and the generation of 130,900 jobs in the three host cities. There were 100,000 in Mexico City, 15,800 in Monterrey and 15,100 in Guadalajara.

Travelers took advantage of their stay to make mostly one-day excursions, and one of the places chosen by the international public was the Chichén Itzá, one of the New 7 Wonders of the World.

Rodríguez Zamora reported that the average hotel occupancy was 66 percent, which represents an increase of 13 percent compared to the same period of 2025. During the match days, occupancy oscillated between 85 and 90 percent, reflecting the high demand for lodging services.

In terms of connectivity, the airports of the headquarters mobilized 6.4 million passengers, of which 4.2 million correspond to domestic flights and 2.2 million to international flights.

He stressed that, with regard to the flow of international passengers, Felipe Ángeles International Airport recorded a growth of 18 percent; Guadalajara International Airport increased 11.5 percent; Monterrey, 10.3 percent; and Mexico City International Airport, 1.5 percent, compared to the same period of the previous year.

He added that the hotel sector reported an average increase of 51.5 percent in the hotel rate, while food and beverage establishments recorded sales increases of between 50 and 80 percent. Likewise, the average consumption ticket per customer in these establishments grew by 60 percent, reflecting the economic dynamism generated by the event.

Meanwhile, the FIFA Fan Fest recorded an attendance of more than 6.7 million people in the three World Cup venues. Mexico City and Monterrey concentrated 2 million 500,000 attendees each, while Guadalajara received 1 million 720 thousand people.

In particular, he announced that Mexico City received 4.4 million travelers, of which 2.5 million were hikers and 1.9 million tourists, who generated an economic spill of 25,865 million pesos, an increase of 41 percent compared to the same season in 2025 (from June 8 to July 19). Of the total number of tourists, 68 percent stayed in hotel establishments and 32 percent used digital accommodation platforms.

On the other hand, Monterrey recorded the arrival of 1.1 million travelers, made up of 610,000 hikers and 490,000 tourists, with an estimated economic spill of 5 billion pesos, 21 percent more than in 2025. Of the total number of tourists, 75 percent chose hotels and 25 percent digital platforms.

Likewise, Guadalajara received 2.3 million travelers, made up of 1.4 million hikers and 918 thousand tourists, who generated an economic spill of 11,411 billion pesos. Of the total number of tourists, 78 percent stayed in hotels and 22 percent on digital platforms.
