The Table Mountain, one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature in the World, celebrated on July 18, the “Mandela Day” with actions in favor of the community.

Mandela Day reminds us that making a difference begins with taking action. To commemorate this Day, staff from different departments at Table Mountain Aerial Cableway gathered to prepare 6,700 sandwiches, which were distributed to organizations such as Chrysalis Academy, The Haven night shelters, St Michael’s Child and Youth Care Center, Christine Revell Children’s Home, Kidz Positive, Lawrence House, Noa’s Home of Elderly, the South African Evangelist Mission, Marsh Memorial Homes, The Hope Exchange and Ikamva Labantu, thus helping to support communities throughout Cape Town.

Although the gesture may be simple, it reflects the power of kindness, compassion and community. “Here we are honoring Madiba’s legacy, one act of service at a time,” said the team members.

Since 2009, on July 18 of each year, the day of the birth of Nelson Mandela, the International Day of Nelson Mandela is celebrated, it is a day that invites everyone to contribute with small things in their own communities. Every being has the capacity and responsibility to forge a better world, and Mandela Day is a good opportunity to undertake and promote that change.

Nelson Mandela was a South African lawyer, activist and politician, famous for leading the movement against apartheid (system of racial segregation). After spending 27 years in prison, he was released in 1990 and became the first black president of South Africa (1994-1999), achieving a peaceful and democratic transition in his country.

Throughout his life, he stood out as a global symbol of the struggle for human rights and reconciliation. His tireless work earned him the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993.
