The Secretary of Tourism of Mexico, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, reported that the Tourism Investment Portfolio continues to grow, registering 925 projects from the 32 federal entities, with a total amount of more than 47,530 million dollars, during the second quarter of 2026.
He pointed out that the projects are mainly concentrated in sun and beach tourism, with 27%; cultural tourism with 24% where archaeological sites could be framed as attractions, among which the Chichén Itzá stands out – one of the New 7 Wonders of the World; business tourism, with 17%, and ecotourism, with 10%, in addition to segments such as health and well-being, gastronomy and religious tourism.
Nayarit, Quintana Roo, Nuevo León and Baja California Sur concentrate the largest amounts of programmed tourism investment, while the projects are distributed among the 32 federal entities.
“Tourist investment continues to grow in Mexico and this is reflected in destinations with more options to receive those who want to travel, discover new experiences and enjoy the great diversity that our country has. Each new project represents an opportunity to strengthen our destinations and generate Shared Prosperity,” said the Secretary of Tourism.
Compared to the first quarter of 2026, the Portfolio recorded a 20 percent increase in the number of projects and 12 percent in the amount of investment, which reflects the strengthening of the joint work between the Ministry of Tourism and the state links.
The head of the Ministry of Tourism stressed that this growth is accompanied by greater diversification of tourism projects, with investments that contribute to expanding the experiences that Mexico offers to its visitors.
“We are seeing how investment also opens up new possibilities to get to know Mexico: enjoy our beaches, tour our cultural destinations, live experiences in contact with nature, discover our gastronomy or find wellness options,” she concluded.
