The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, reported that during the period from January to August 2026 the country’s airports served 128.3 million passengers, with an increase in the flow of the main airports, particularly in destinations such as Querétaro, Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) and Mérida.

“Air connectivity is essential to continue bringing more visitors to our destinations and for the benefits of tourism to reach more regions of our country. Today we see how different airports are growing and that also speaks of the diversity of destinations that Mexico has and the opportunities that we are generating for more people to know them, enjoy them and return,” said the Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora.

According to information from the Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC), the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport (SICT), of the total number of passengers registered between January and August 2026, 6.8 million corresponded to national operations and 41.5 million passengers in international operations.

Considering the accumulated flow from January to August 2026 in the 15 airports with the highest movement, Querétaro recorded the highest growth, with 11.7 percent, followed by AIFA, with 9.6 percent, and Mérida, with 7.0 percent.

They also highlighted Chihuahua, with an increase of 6.3 percent, and Guadalajara, with 4.8 percent.

On the other hand, in August 2026 alone, Mexican airports served 16.8 million passengers, 2.7 percent more than the 16.3 million registered in August 2025, which represents an increase of 444,820 passengers.

“These results show us that there are regions that are growing and that we must continue to accompany this development so that tourism translates into well-being and Shared Prosperity for all,” Rodríguez Zamora concluded.
