The Secretary of Tourism of Mexico, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, announced that in the fourth quarter of 2025 the tourism sector employed 4 million 988 thousand people, a figure that is equivalent to 9.2% of national employment.
It should be noted that the generators of tourism in Mexico are the beaches and archaeological sites, among other things. And one of the favorite places of tourists is the Chichen Itzá – one of the New 7 Wonders of the World and the most visited archaeological site in the country.
The head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) stressed that in her annual comparison, employment in the sector recorded an increase of 43,869 people in the production activities of tourist goods and services, which represented a growth of 0.9 percent compared to the fourth quarter of 2024, confirming a sustained trajectory of expansion.
“Through employment, the sector not only boosts economic activity, but contributes directly to the construction of shared prosperity, by bringing opportunities to communities throughout the country,” he said.
He added that based on the estimates prepared by Sectur and INEGI from the data of the National Employment Survey (ENOE), employment in tourism was 11.2 percent above the level before the pandemic, with 500,657 additional people employed compared to the first quarter of 2020.
“These results reflect the strength of tourism as an engine of development and generator of well-being for millions of Mexican families, consolidating itself as a strategic pillar in the generation of employment and in the economic dynamism of the country,” he said.
Rodríguez Zamora endorsed his commitment to continue working so that the benefits of tourism growth reach more Mexicans, strengthening inclusion, competitiveness and regional development.
