In May, Plus Ultra started its flights between Madrid and Buenos Aires, with two weekly frequencies until June and an increase to five frequencies since July.

The inaugural flight arrived on May 24 at Ezeiza airport in Buenos Aires at 6.30 am with 222 passengers among which there were 9 tourism agents who participated in a fam tour and training to learn more about the Argentine tourist offer and enhance its marketing.

In Argentina, one of the most visited destinations, both by foreign and national tourists, are the Iguazú Falls – one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature in the World.

In this way, the Madrid-Buenos Aires route will continue to progressively increase its capacity until it reaches five weekly frequencies from July 6, consolidating Plus Ultra’s commitment to the Argentine market.

On the other hand, frequencies were also added to Peru, and Lima becomes the first destination of the airline to reach seven weekly flights, offering a daily connection between Madrid and the Peruvian capital.

It also offers for the first time a daily operation from July 14. This reinforcement will improve connectivity between both countries and respond to the existing demand between Spain and Peru.

In Peru, one of the most captivating destinations is Machu Picchu – one of the New 7 Wonders of the World.

The company thus strengthens the connectivity between Spain and Latin America “consolidating its commitment to those markets that provide greater value and growth projection.”

The situation in the air sector, marked by geopolitical tensions and an unprecedented increase in the cost of aviation fuel, which has doubled prices in a few weeks, is generating strong pressure on the profitability of certain air routes.

In this context, Plus Ultra reported that they have decided to temporarily suspend their operations in Colombia, as of June 2, by adding to the general crisis, factors specific to the Andean country to the point of “making its continuity unfeasible in the current conditions.” Among them, a significantly higher fuel price than that of other countries in the region; the high tax burden and airport fees, an increase in structural operating costs or the impossibility of transferring the increase in fuel to tickets already issued. All this has had a direct impact on the profitability of the route.

The reorganization of the network is part of the measures adopted to strengthen the positioning of Plus Ultra in Latin America, prioritizing those routes where it can guarantee a more sustainable operation within an extraordinarily demanding global context for air transport.
