Rio de Janeiro continues to be the main gateway for foreign tourists in Brazil. From January to June 2026, the state, birthplace of Christ the Redeemer – one of the New 7 Wonders of the World – received 1,337,950 international visitors, a growth of 15.6% compared to the same period of 2025, according to data from Embratur. The result consolidates a growing trajectory that has already added 84.1% since 2023.
Revenues could reach US$4.8 billion
With the increase in the flow of visitors, the projection of the collection with international tourism in the state reaches US$ 4.8 billion in the year, equivalent to approximately R$ 24.4 billion. The movement reinforces the economic weight of the sector and the direct effect on hospitality, gastronomy, transport and the entire chain of services linked to the foreign visitor.
Argentina remains the main issuing market, with about 472,000 tourists in the period. Arrival by air represents approximately 90% of the total, a movement accompanied by a 12.46% growth in the supply of international flights.
Second semester with more flights
The pace is expected to continue in the second half of the year, with 18,301 flights scheduled for the period. For the hotel sector of Rio de Janeiro, the scenario represents an opportunity for early planning of occupation, rates and the capture of new markets, especially in the face of the calendar of major events that the state receives until the end of 2026.
