China introduced its Wonder Marker, a towering signpost standing at 3 metres high, commemorating the Great Wall of China as one of the distinguished New 7 Wonders of the World (N7W). This prestigious recognition was bestowed upon the Great Wall following a global public vote. The unveiling ceremony took place this July at Huangyaguan Great Wall, located in Tianjin Province, an awe-inspiring and highly sought-after destination situated approximately 130 km east of Beijing.

The momentous occasion was led by Mr. Zhou Jidong, Chairman of Jizhou Travel Culture Group and Head of the Huangyaguan Great Wall, alongside N7W Director Jean-Paul de la Fuente. The event featured a series of simultaneous celebrations and cultural exhibitions, including the captivating display of an extraordinary 77-metre artwork created exclusively by renowned Chinese artist Xia Pengcheng to commemorate the Wonder Marker’s unveiling. Additionally, as part of the ceremony, seven couples exchanged vows and were married.

“The Huangyaguan Great Wall is the natural home for the Wonder Marker, representing a source of great pride and historical significance for Tianjin Province. We extend a warm welcome to all visitors, both from China and around the world, to come and experience our exceptional Wonder Marker,” expressed Mr. Zhou Jidong.

In a video message by Bernard Weber, the President and Founder of N7W shared the following statement: “With the placement of this Wonder Marker –which celebrates the New7Wonders of the World– we are continuously creating Global Memory of seven extraordinary examples of human creativity that everybody can and will remember on this planet, the legacy of which will be passed down to future generations.”

As a permanent installation along the Huangyaguan Great Wall, the Wonder Marker takes the form of a pointer symbol with six signs extending towards the other New 7 Wonders of the World. This distinctive and eye-catching structure serves as a significant landmark for all visitors to include in their exploration of the Huangyaguan Great Wall. It adds an extra dimension to their experience and enriches their journey through this remarkable site.
