The Secretariat of Tourism of Mexico (Sectur), announced that the United Kingdom was consolidated as the fourth issuing market of international tourists to our country, an increase of 2.3% more than in 2018.
Sectur also highlighted that, from January to July 2024, 271,268 tourists arrived in Mexico by air from the United Kingdom, and a tourist expenditure of 321 million 432 thousand dollars, a figure that exceeds by 6.3% of what was recorded in the first seven months of 2018.
They also indicated that from 2018 to 2023, the arrival of tourists from 8 cities in the United Kingdom was received, London, Gatwick, Manchester, Birmingham and Newcastle being the main ones, to 4 destinations in Mexico, and highlighted that in 2024 1,776 flights are scheduled from the United Kingdom to Mexico, with an offer of 517,893 scheduled seats.
In this context, they pointed out that the main destinations in Mexico where tourism reaches this European nation are: Mexico City, Cancun, Puerto Vallarta and Mérida.
The main airlines with United Kingdom-Mexico-United Kingdom routes in the first seven months of 2024 were: TUI Airways, with 44.2%; British Airways, with 37.9% and Aeromexico, with 17.9%.
He reported that, for this year, from the five main cities of the United Kingdom, the arrival in Mexico of 536,652 passengers is estimated, this is 14.3% more than the arrivals of 2023; and a spill of 607 million 727,000 dollars is expected.
Sectur highlighted the importance of international tourists from the United Kingdom, for representing a segment of high level of spending and great interest in new products and experiences, such as those that have been developed in the current administration to be in line with the demands of an increasingly informed and demanding tourist; and this in turn will be reflected in benefits for the local population.
They stressed that these results are thanks to the work tours carried out within the framework of the World Travel Market (WTM), where in addition to tourism promotion before important tour operators, meetings were held with airline managers, presidents of travel agency associations and tourism authorities; as well as with important global media, who made known to their audiences the tourist wealth of Mexico.
He emphasized that to carry out these actions that will boost the tourist flow to Mexico, air connectivity and investments, he had the invaluable support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) through the Mexican ambassador to the United Kingdom.
Mexico has one of the New 7 Wonders of the World
One of the most visited places by tourists who arrive in Mexico is Chichen Itza, the most famous temple of the Mayan city, it was the political and economic center of the Mayan civilization. Its varied structures (the Kukulkan pyramid, the Temple of the Warriors, the Thousand Columns, the Great Ball Game) can still be seen today as a demonstration of an extraordinary commitment to architectural space and composition.
The pyramid itself is the last, and possibly the most important, of all Mayan temples. And in 2007 this magical space was elected as one of the New 7 Wonders of the World.
